A seventy-five-year-old woman received a university diploma in Pharmacy

TPO - On the morning of October 29th, Nam Can Tho University held a graduation ceremony for students who had been awarded university degrees in 2023. Among the more than 2,600 students honored with degrees, the most impressive was the image of a seventy-five-year-old woman with gray hair slowly walking up to the podium to receive her Pharmacy diploma.

Speaking to a Tien Phong reporter after just receiving her diploma, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong Luu shared: "I am very happy and proud that I completed the study program to get a diploma in Pharmacy, which I liked."

Mrs. Luu shared that she had accompanied her son from around 3 a.m. to the university to receive her diploma. She has three children who all study medicine and pharmacy. Her husband passed away more than 30 years ago. She lives in Ngai Loi A hamlet, Loi Binh Nhon village, Tan An City, Long An Province. Mrs. Luu was a student in the 8th course of the Pharmacy class, a college-to-university transfer system at Nam Can Tho University, and graduated with a very good grade.

Previously, Mrs. Luu had worked as a primary school teacher. After retiring, she studied to become an intermediate pharmacist and then went to college. By 2020, she was studying at the university level. Mrs. Luu believes that learning has no limits, as long as there is a goal, she is always determined and strives to the end. Speaking about her decision to go to university when she was over seventy years old, Mrs. Luu said: "There is nothing to fear, if other people can do it, I can do it. I tried to get a university degree so I could fulfill my dream of opening a pharmacy."

Despite her aging, Mrs. Luu is very hard-working, waking up at 3 a.m. every weekend to take the bus from Long An to Nam Can Tho University to study. Mrs. Luu shared that when she was studying at university, she was loved and supported wholeheartedly by her teachers and friends. She also tried her best to attend university, listen to lectures, and take full notes. She also diligently read books and found suitable learning methods for herself. "Learning is a long journey, and I hope my children and grandchildren will not give up," Mrs. Luu reminded young people.

Dr. Pharmacist Do Van Mai, the Standing Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Nam Can Tho University, commented, "Nguyen Thi Hong Luu, although seventy-five years old, is very hard-working, sociable, and industrious. She always explores and learns from teachers and students in class, and is loved and admired by both teachers and her peers.”
