Students Compete To Become Prospective Tour Guides In Can Tho

Are you passionate about tourism and want to share your love for Can Tho with the world? Do you have what it takes to be a professional tour guide and introduce the history, culture, cuisine, and attractions of Can Tho to domestic and foreign visitors? If yes, then you should not miss the opportunity to join the Prospective Tour Guide Contest 2023!

The contest is open to all students studying at universities, colleges and vocational schools in Can Tho City, as well as international students studying in Can Tho. The contest aims to discover and nurture new talents in broadcasting and journalism, as well as to promote the image and reputation of Can Tho as a vibrant and diverse destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

The contest is also a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment and development of Can Tho City (January 1, 2004 - January 1, 2024) and the Fourth Congress of the Vietnam Student Association of Can Tho City, term 2023 - 2028.

The Contest’s Format and Theme

The contest consists of three rounds: preliminary, semi-final and final. In each round, you will be given a topic related to Can Tho tourism and you will have to prepare and present a speech about it in front of a jury and an audience. You will be evaluated on your content, delivery, language, creativity and personality.

The preliminary round will take place on May 27, 2023 at Nam Can Tho University, with the theme "Proud of Hometown Can Tho". You will have to choose one of the historical and cultural relics or famous ecological tourist spots of Can Tho City from a list provided by the organizers, and perform a presentation about it. The presentation should last between 3 to 5 minutes.

At the end of the preliminary round, the organizers will select 28 best contestants to enter the semi-final round, which will take place on July 09, 2023 at Can Tho Eco Resort. The theme for this round will be "Can Tho - A Destination for All Seasons".

What are the prizes

The winners of the contest will receive attractive prizes from the organizers and sponsors, including:

  • First prize: A certificate of merit from the Vietnam Student Association of Can Tho City, a cash prize of 5 million VND.

  • Second prize: A certificate of merit from the Vietnam Student Association of Can Tho City, a cash prize of 3 million VND.

  • Third prize: A certificate of merit from the Vietnam Student Association of Can Tho City, a cash prize of 2 million VND.

  • Consolation prizes: A certificate of merit from the Vietnam Student Association of Can Tho City, a cash prize of 1 million VND.

Who are the judges

The jury of the contest consists of experienced professionals in tourism, education and media fields. They are:

  • Mr. Lam Van Tan, Vice Secretary of Can Tho Youth Union - Vice Chairman of Student Association of Can Tho City.

  • Mr. Nguyen Du Ha Long, MA - First Prize Winner of National Tour Guide Debate Contest in 2014 - Lecturer of Faculty of Tourism Management and Travel at Nam Can Tho University

  • Mr. Nguyen Hong Hieu - CEO of Hong Hieu International Travel Company.

  • Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh - Head of Operation Department of TA TA TRAVEL Company.

  • Dr. Le Van Phuong - Dean of Faculty of Tourism Management and Travel at FPT University Can Tho.

  • Ms. Duong Thanh Xuan, MA - Deputy Head of Tourism Department at Tay Do University.

  • Mr. Ngo Thanh Liem - CEO of ALO TRIP OTA Tourism and Event Company Limited.

  • Dr. Huynh Van Da - Deputy Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Can Tho University.

  • Mr. Dinh Hieu Nghia, MA - Deputy Dean of Faculty of Travel Management - Tour Guide at Can Tho College of Tourism.

  • Ms. Huynh Thi Bao Tram, MA - Deputy Dean of Faculty of Tourism Management at Can Tho College
