“Transforming the economic growth model of Can Tho City to 2020 and vision to 2030”

       In the morning of 11/12/2014, Can Tho University and People's Committee of Can Tho City organized the Scientific Conference "Transforming the economic growth model Can Tho City to 2020 with a vision to 2030” at the Hall of the People's Committee of Can Tho. City.

The conference was respectfully welcomed: Dr. Tran Thanh Man - Member of the Central Committee of the Party - Secretary of the Can Tho City Party  - Head of National Assembly Delegation of Can Tho City; Mr. Le Hung Dung - Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party - Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho; MSc. Nguyen Thanh Hai – Chief of Office, Southwest Steering Committee; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Thi Hien - Director of the Academy of Cadets of Ho Chi Minh City; Prof. Nguyen Thanh Tuyen - Rector of Ho Chi Minh University of Economics and Finance - Editor-in-Chief of Integration and Development Magazine - Former Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics - Director of Can Tho Institute of Socio-Economics.

        Attending the seminar were representatives of the Ministry of Education and Training in Ho Chi Minh City: Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung. On the side of the Ministry of Science and Technology, there were the attendance of MSc. Pham Ngoc Minh – Deputy Director of Southern Department of Operations, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh – Tia Sang Newspaper.

On the side of Nam Can Tho University, there was the attendance of Prof Vo Tong Xuan – Rector of the University. Dr. Lawyer Nguyen Tien Dung - Chairman of the Advisory Council of Nam Can Tho University and representatives of leaders of departments and branches, scientists inside and outside the Can Tho city.

Transforming the growth model has been identified by the Third Conference, the 11th Central Committee of the Party, as one of the important focuses in economic development in the 2011-2015 period: Transforming the growth model economic development from mainly developing in width to reasonable development between width and depth, in which priority is given to development in depth, while expanding scale while focusing on quality, efficiency and sustainability to striving by 2020 our country will basically become an industrialized country in the direction of modernity. Then gradually shift to in-depth development, "to create conditions so that from now to the middle of the twenty-first century, our entire Party and people must strive to build our country into a modern industrialized country oriented Socialist".

In order for the conference to achieve high quality and get more information, the University has coordinated with departments, agencies and branches of Can Tho City, especially the Department of Science and Technology and scientists to co-organize an expanded scientific conference. With the purpose of exchanging information about the theories and practices in the process of transforming the economic model of Vietnam, the economy of Can Tho city, the opportunities - challenges and solutions that Can Tho city will have to implement in the process of transforming economic growth model.

The conference was successfully held with many opinions from representatives of departments, agencies and scientists, good models were shared and discussed by the conference. It is believed that in the near future Can Tho City will become a strong economic center of the Mekong Delta.
