1. Introduction Faculty of Laws

The Faculty of Laws was established in 2018, on the basis of being separated from the Faculty of Economics - Law according to Decision No. 44/QD-CTHDQT-DHNCT of the University Council Chairman of Nam Can Tho University. The Faculty of Laws performs the function of training, doing scientific research in the field of law, and carrying out community service activities. Currently, the Faculty of Laws is assigned by the University to be in charge of training two majors at the university level including Law and Economic Law, and at the same time training one major at the master's level, which is Master of Economic Law. In addition, the Faculty of Laws is also in charge of teaching general law subjects for students of all majors, economic law subjects for students majoring in economics and business administration; Teaching tourism law to students majoring in tourism management, restaurant and hotel management.

2. Functions and tasks of the Faculty of Laws

The functions and duties of the Faculty of Laws are specified in the Regulation on the organization and operation of Nam Can Tho University and according to the specific assignment of the University Council and the Rectorate, specifically including:

Firstly, in terms of training: the Faculty of Laws develops, updates, and edits the training program to ensure that the training program meets the requirements of society. Every year, the Faculty assigns lecturers to be in charge of teaching the modules in the bachelor's and master's degree programs in charge of the Faculty of Laws. Besides, the Faculty is also in charge of teaching general legal subjects for training majors as assigned by the University.

Secondly, in terms of scientific research: on the basis of the targets assigned by the University's leaders and the research capacity of the Faculty of Laws, the Faculty of Laws annually registers to compile the textbooks, lectures, and practice scientific research topics. In addition, every year the Faculty of Laws also registers to organize scientific seminars in the legal field and seminars to improve teaching methods and improve the training quality of the Faculty and the University. In addition, faculty members of the Faculty also publish articles in scientific journals, and conference proceedings at home and abroad.

Third, about community service: every year, the Faculty of Laws faculty together with the Faculty of Laws delegation organize gratitude, support, and help for families with difficult circumstances, and orphans without places. rely on; mobilize sponsors to award scholarships to students with difficult circumstances and studious; The Faculty of Laws provides legal advice and legal assistance to disadvantaged people with legal needs.

3. Organizational structure and staff

In terms of organizational structure: The organizational structure of the Faculty of Laws includes the Science and Training Council; Faculty Board of Directors; Faculty of Laws, Department of Economic Law; Faculty Office, and Faculty of Laws.

Therefore, personnel issues are always paid special attention to by the University and the Faculty. Regarding the management staff, the Faculty of Laws has 01 Dean, 01 Vice Dean, 02 Heads, and 02 Deputy Heads in charge of two Departments. Besides, the Faculty of Laws also has a team of quality lecturers who are working at prestigious law training institutions in the region, in agencies doing legal practice. This is a very important human resource to carry out the teaching and scientific research tasks of the Faculty.

4. Achievements

Over the years, with the attention and direction of the University Council and the Rectorate, and the outstanding efforts of the Faculty, the Faculty of Laws has achieved outstanding achievements in all aspects, specifically as follows:

Firstly, in terms of training: It can be said that the training of the Faculty of Laws has been continuously expanded in quantity and improved in training quality. Up to now, the Faculty of Laws has had 5 graduate courses, providing nearly 1000 quality bachelor of Law and Economic Law for the Mekong Delta region in particular and the South region in general, serving the needs of socio-economic development of the region. The survey results show that the percentage of students who get a job right after graduation is over 90 percent. Graduates of Law and Economic Law from the Faculty of Laws, Nam Can Tho University have been assessed by employers to meet the requirements of the labor market. Currently, the Faculty has obtained the Certificate of Accreditation for the training program in Economic Law and is preparing to evaluate outside the Law training program by the end of 2022. On the basis of being granted the Accreditation Certificate With the quality of the undergraduate training program in Economic Law, the Faculty has been allowed by the Ministry of Education and Training to train the master's degree in Economic Law.

Secondly, regarding scientific research: the Faculty of Laws always identifies legal science research as a very important task to improve training quality and serve society. Since the establishment of the Faculty until now, the Faculty of Laws has compiled 06 textbooks and 01 monograph; organized 04 scientific conferences at Faculty and School level; chaired 03 scientific research projects at the university level. Up to now, lecturers of the Faculty of Laws have published 104 scientific articles published in journals, and scientific conference proceedings at home and abroad.

Third, academic extracurricular activities: Academic extracurricular activities are one of the activities that are always interesting to the Faculty of Laws in order to practice professional skills and soft skills for students. In particular, the mock trial is one of the activities held annually. Through the study of real and selected case files, students have the opportunity to practice case file research skills, law application skills, reasoning and argumentation skills, public speaking skills, and teamwork skills. In addition, the Faculty of Laws also organizes legal Olympiads and invites experts and practitioners to come to the University to talk with students.

Fourth, performing community service tasks: in addition to legal scientific research and training activities, community service activities are always interested in by the Faculty of Laws. Over the years, the Faculty of Laws has always successfully completed the examination and inspection of the national high school graduation exam under the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training. Every year, the faculty members have fundraising activities to support the flood people in the Central region, the poor, and especially the Faculty of Laws, which has repeatedly supported the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic during this time. past time. Besides, on holidays and Tet holidays, the Faculty of Laws delegation has carried out many meaningful volunteer programs such as Tet for the poor, the Mid-Autumn Festival program for children, Children’s Day program to spread love and help disadvantaged lives.

5. Development orientation

On the basis of the achievements achieved and the actual situation of the Faculty of Laws, the development orientation of the Faculty of Laws to 2015 and a vision for 2030, specifically as follows:

Firstly, continue to improve the quality of legal training and research in order to provide society with high-quality students who better meet the requirements of the labor market. Continuing to carry out the accreditation of the Master's program in Economic Law on that basis, the Faculty will develop training programs, enroll students and organize doctoral training in Economic Law. Since then, the Law Faculty of Can Tho University has become one of the prestigious and branded law training institutions in the Southern region.

Secondly, in the coming time, the Faculty of Laws will continue to sign cooperation agreements with many agencies and organizations doing practical legal work to bring students to practice, practice during the training period, thereby helping students Trainees practice professional skills, train close to reality so that students can better meet the requirements of the labor market right after graduation.

Third, the Faculty of Laws continues to promote scientific research and continues to register to compile curricula suitable to the Faculty's training activities in order to better serve the research and teaching needs of lecturers and students. Continue to register for grassroots-level scientific projects and strive to carry out two city-level scientific projects and one ministerial-level scientific research project.

Fourth, continue to improve the professional qualifications of the faculty and management staff of the Faculty. Orientation to 2030, the Faculty of Laws has 50% of lecturers with doctorate degrees. Every year, the Faculty of Laws appoints lecturers to participate in short-term training courses, to attend scientific conferences organized by educational institutions and research institutes, to cultivate and learn from experience.
