The Faculties of Information Technology and Tourism and Hospitality Management attended The workshop towards the 20th Anniversary of Can Tho City under The Central Government

THE FACULTIES OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT ATTENDED THE WORKSHOP TOWARDS THE 20th ANNIVERSARY OF CAN THO CITY UNDER THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT

On the morning of May 31, 2023, the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Can Tho City in collaboration with the Social Sciences and Humanities Association of the City held a scientific workshop "Some impacts of Science and Technology on the culture - society of Can Tho City today" at the Southwest guesthouse hall (No. 02, Nguyen Trai Street, Can Tho City). The delegates who attended the workshop were Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kieu, Vice President of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of the City, Mr. Tran Van Tu, President of the Social Sciences and Humanities Association together with leaders of departments and administrative offices of the City, members of the Union of Associations, universities, centers, and media agencies. On the side of Nam Can Tho University there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Canh, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Mr. Nguyen Van Linh (MSc.), Vice Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology (IT), and some lecturers of the two faculties.

The Workshop created an opportunity for scientists, managers, and entrepreneurs to share scientific and technological information that impacted the culture and society of Can Tho City towards the celebration of the 20th of Can Tho City under the Central Government (January 1, 2004 - January 1, 2024).

 

At the Workshop the lecturers of the Nam Can Tho University presented two important presentations: "The impact of science and technology on socio-cultural development" by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Canh, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, and "Needs and Solutions to digital transformation in tourism of Can Tho City" by Mr. Tran Thanh Nam (MSc.), lecturer in the IT Faculty.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Canh presented in a general way the positive and negative impacts of science and technology on culture - society from ancient times to human society in general and Vietnam in particular. Thereby, he recommended promoting the positive side and limiting the negative side of science and technology for socio-economic development in the current period.

Besides, Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, a representative of the digital transformation research team in the field of tourism at Nam Can Tho University deeply analyzed the tourism situation of Can Tho City and proposed a number of digital transformation technologies applied in tourism such as Big Data, Machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud computing, Semantic Web, etc. Mr. Nam also proposed that Nam Can Tho University open an E-tourism major in training to provide human resources with both tourism knowledge and IT knowledge to meet the tourism labor market in the current strong digital transformation trend.

Two presentations from Nam Can Tho University attracted much attention and discussion from scientists, managers, and business leaders.

Attending this Workshop, scientists from Nam Can Tho University had the opportunity to introduce the potential of scientific research and technology transfer of the university, thereby seeking scientific research cooperation with the locals.
