NAM CAN THO UNIVERSITY OPENS A NEW SCHOOL YEAR

On the morning of September 22, Nam Can Tho University held the opening ceremony of the new school year 2023-2024. Speaking at the opening, Dr. Lawyer Nguyen Tien Dung, Chairman of the University Council, Nam Can Tho University said: "After more than 10 years of operation, the university has stabilized its operating system; there have been over 10,000 graduates, providing human resources for Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta. The university has been granted a Certificate of Education Quality Accreditation (Cycle 2) by the Center for Educational Quality Accreditation (Hanoi National University), and the UPM Institute of Innovation has granted the university a UPM four-star rating system certificate.”

From 2020 to 2023, the university contributed VND 30.5 billion to volunteer activities in Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta provinces. In the 2023-2024 school year, the university had more than 23,500 students, including more than 6,000 new students, with forty-one undergraduate majors, six master's majors, and one doctoral degree major. The Ministry of Education and Training had allowed the university to train two new majors: Dentomaxillofacial and Preventive Medicine. The university awarded nearly VND 12.6 billion in scholarships to reward students with excellent admission scores in the 2023 admission, spending more than VND 1 billion to reward students who had overcome difficulties and studied well.

The university is gradually improving its facilities and equipment to meet teaching and learning needs. It is launching the construction of the remaining items of Phase 2, including many large-scale projects such as applying for land planning to build new ecological urban areas, eco-tourism areas, and a nursing home in Can Tho City; constructing and developing Phase 2 of the expansion project of Nam Can Tho University Hospital, a 20-storey building with a construction floor area of over 60,000 m², estimated to have an investment value of approximately VND 1,000 billion. The total construction floor area of Phase 1 and Phase 2 is 250,000 m² with an estimated investment cost of both being approximately VND 13,000 billion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Duong Tan Hien, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, praised the recent achievements and wished the university to continue improving the quality and efficiency of educational activities; strengthening the application of information technology to innovate teaching methods and educational management. He also requested that the party committees, branches, and unions of the central and local levels continue to pay attention to more practical, comprehensive, and timely the university in order to contribute to the university's successful implementation of the new school year's tasks. On this occasion, the university had twelve groups and twenty-two individuals receive Certificates of Merit from the People's Committee of Can Tho City; rewarding two new students (VND 15 million/student) who achieved valedictorian admission in 2023.
