DEPARTMENT OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
1. INTRODUCTION
The Department of Academic Affairs of Nam Can Tho University was established according to Decision No. 15/QĐ-CTHDQT-ĐHNCT dated June 12, 2013, by the President of the University Council with the function of assisting the Council and the Rectorate Board in directing and developing the university training activities, organizing, implementing, and monitoring all teaching and learning activities of different levels and forms of university education at the University.
2. FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
2.1 FUNCTIONS
The Department is responsible for providing advice to the University Council and the Rectorate Board on the management and development of training programs at various levels (postgraduate, undergraduate) and types (regular, part-time, distance, self-directed learning with guidance) and for various fields. The Department is responsible for organizing, managing, and implementing training programs, ensuring the quality of education, and overseeing the affairs of students within its jurisdiction. Additionally, the Department participates in career counseling and enrollment activities for different levels, fields, and types of education, as directed by the University Council and the Rectorate Board.
2.2 DUTIES
On the basis of the functions of the Department of Academic Affairs, the head of the Department has developed specific goals and tasks for the Department, specifically:
2.2.1 Plan and develop training programs
- Research and propose the development direction of the University in terms of training goals, training levels, industry structure, scale, and training methods;
- Organize and coordinate with the Faculties to build and develop new training disciplines, advanced training programs, review, adjust and improve training programs, teaching and learning methods, topics course outline, learning materials;
- Lead and coordinate with relevant units to develop and submit to the University Council and the Rectorate Board for approval and issuance of training management documents. 2.2.2 Develop and organize the implementation of the training plan
- Collaborate with Departments and Faculties to construct and implement training plans for majors.
- Develop teaching plans, learning conditions, and physical facilities (classrooms, playgrounds, teaching equipment, etc.) to serve teaching and learning.
- Lead the organization and arrangement of students admitted to majors according to the regulations of the university;
- Collaborate with the Departments and Faculties to assign teachers, implement teaching plans, create teaching schedules, learning schedules, and exam schedules for the majors.
- Collaborate with units within the university to implement enrollment plans, opening ceremonies, and graduation ceremonies for the educational programs at the university.
2.2.3 Academic management
- Manage the record and academic profile of guest lecturers;
- Manage the lecture schedule of lecturers;
- Compile the standard teaching hours and complete the procedures for verifying lecture hours to facilitate payment;
- Manage students' learning outcomes; organize academic review processes for students who wish to continue, suspend, or withdraw from their studies, as well as maintain academic records for students and issue transcripts and certificates;
- Organize graduation procedures, confer degrees and training certificates, and manage academic records and graduation certificates for students;
- Collaborate with relevant units to evaluate and award commendations or disciplinary actions related to academic affairs for vocational, undergraduate, and graduate programs;
- Collaborate with relevant units to evaluate the quality of teaching of lecturers.
2.2.4 Other duties
- Coordinate with Departments, Faculties within the university to manage student tuition fees;
- Carry out administrative tasks such as document management, record-keeping, and statistics to support the management work of the department and the university.
- Collaborate with the University's Board of Inspection to conduct periodic checks as required by the university's regulations
3. STAFF
The current Academic Department is structured with 07 personnel, including 01 Department Head, 01 Deputy Department Head, and 05 specialists.

4. ACTIVITIES
Over the past 10 years of formation and development, The Department of Academic Affairs successfully completed our tasks in training management. The department has provided excellent support in all aspects related to learners throughout their learning and development at Nam Can Tho University. The department is the advisory unit in building regulations, rules, and training management documents; it is in charge of developing new programs, training courses, renewing and improving the quality of training programs annually to meet social development and integration requirements. The department also establishes annual learning and teaching plans to ensure compliance with regulations, schedules, and practical situations. Until now, the department has provided consultation and led the implementation of opening training courses from the initial 06 majors to 38 majors approved for enrollment in the academic year 2022-2023. Along with close coordination with departments and units in training, enrollment, ensuring educational quality, and other assigned tasks by the University Council and the Rectorate Board. For many consecutive years, The Department of Academic Affairs has achieved excellent collective labor honors and advanced labor collective honors. Individuals who have achieved outstanding results in completing academic tasks and have earned the titles of exemplary soldiers in competition and advanced labor have been recognized. The department has received the title "Excellent in Education and Training" for 2017, awarded by the People's Committee of Can Tho City, according to decision number 3409/QĐ-UBND by the President of the City People's Committee. The department's leaders have been awarded the title of "Exemplary Soldier in Competition" for academic years from 2013-2022 by the Rector of Nam Can Tho University, as well as the "Outstanding Completion of Academic Tasks" award from the President of Can Tho City People's Committee.
5. Orientations for development
With the continuous development of society, the leadership team and staff of The Department of Academic Affairs continue to perform well the tasks set out in previous years. At the same time, we are building important tasks that need to be implemented for the coming years. Among them, continuing to do well in training management work; effectively applying software tools, and information technology in management and training work; continuing to consolidate and improve the personnel framework; participating with other units in the University to open new majors to meet the needs of society; participating with specialized departments to build, adjust and evaluate training programs that are suitable for practice; strengthening personnel training in management work; and enhancing vocational training capacity for department staff; implement a cultured lifestyle and scientific working approach; coordinate with other departments to carry out admission counseling and communication activities for the University, as well as other social and charitable endeavors.
